Pennard Puddle for Future Generations
Originally built in 1972, it is the only 'learner' pool attached to a primary school in Swansea. It has been a unique and loved resource for the school and the community for over 40 years. It's time to ensure that this pool serves its community for many more years to come.

A Vernon Watkins Trail
A trail linking Pennard school and Library complex starting from the Vernon Watkins memorial tree and stone and leading out to Pennard cliffs. The trail will be marked by information or directed points with opportunities to explore the wonderful poetry of Vernon Watkins and its direct links to the landscape of Pennard and Gower. Building on the recent success of the festival with Three cliffs coffee shops there will be a yearly event and competition for school children building on the legacy.

Have a local unwanted Christmas gift collection
Every year many households in this area have the odd duplicate or unwanted Christmas gift. Often these are beautiful gifts, toiletries, make up, hat and glove sets etc.

Is it possible that we could have a local collection of unused and unwanted gifts, perhaps in the produce market. Maybe the gifts could go to Swansea’s homeless, women’s refuge or a local charity for fundraising raffles?

Safety gates to prevent cows accessing footpaths/shortcuts in the housing estates
The reason for this idea is that my children were in danger of been trampled by cows approaching the opposite way when walking down the path between Southgate Road and Heatherslade Road. We were fortunate that no one was hurt as we managed to get out of the way in time. This is a serious accident waiting to happen and easily result in someone getting hurt.

The cows wonder around the housing estates and use these paths regularly. You only need the cows to be spooked and they stampede up these paths putting people using them in danger or risk causing a car accident when they run onto the road. I would like all our children in the community to feel safe when walking down these pathways and not have to worry about meeting cows.

The cows also tend to poo a lot and it's very hard to avoid the poo when walking up these narrow paths especially when pushing a pram.

Please can we consider easy access gates to stop a potential accident/death and keep the poo out.

Petitions to install a cattle grid to keep cows out of the village don't seem to have worked so this is just an idea to keep them out of our pathways where there is no room to avoid them.

Connecting Rural Communities
The Swansea Rural Community Voice Project ran for two years and in many ways achieved positive outcomes that went beyond the scope of the project. The potential for people to come together around common goals and themes such as the environment, transport and food and growing was realised within individual communities.

We would like to begin a new project, building on this success, with the aim of connecting people within communities along these themes and further connecting these groups to share ideas and best practice across the eight rural wards of Swansea, increasing the resilience and sustainability within all rural communities.

We will be recruiting volunteer Community Champions who will help raise awareness of the project within these communities and approach local businesses and organisations to sponsor the community group. Through this sponsorship, our aim is to create self sustaining jobs for Community Champions and in turn ensure ongoing services for Community Voice.

The sponsorship package on offer will allow local businesses to advertise not only offers and services but also any positive impact they have had within their communities. This sponsorship will ensure the continued free use of the platform in communities, the generation of a quarterly Community Voice publication and will also pay for an employee to manage engagement and volunteers within these communities.

Please rate this idea to help us keep the conversation going and give a voice to everyone in rural Swansea.

If you need any more information, please call 0800 689 0290.

Thanks

Educational project exploring the local history of the fishing industry through the arts.
Involving schools and groups to find out about the industry and create related artworks that would be used to tell the story of fishing. Creating artworks and sculptures using a variety of materials relating to different fish species dependent on what can be caught locally. Display of artworks at local community venues /events would be part of the project.
