why is it possible to post a for/against comment on an idea that I haven't rated? Seems to duplicate and confuse functionality. Eg. I could also rate an idea as one star to disagree, then post a For comment!

Answer: Discussing before voting is great for rich democracy
I love being able to comment (including for and against) before having to vote, because sometimes I'm not fully decided, yet I can see arguments for/against the idea, and there can be great value in me sharing them.
Finally, offering an argument AGAINST an idea you've voted 4 or 5 stars on is often a sign of a pluralistic thinker and open minded person, able to see from multiple perspectives simultaneously rather than a binary world.
I love being able to comment (including for and against) before having to vote, because sometimes I'm not fully decided, yet I can see arguments for/against the idea, and there can be great value in me sharing them.

I think we can save a click and make this simpler, clearer, quicker..
No need for it to actually look like a dropdown menu necessarily, but when I click 'Decline to rate' I'd like it to open a dropdown (rather than take me to a new piece of interface where I have to click on 'Please select')

decline to rate IS a dropdown, I guess what you meant is rather to show the dropdown by default, and, say, make the first choice of the dropdown ‘decline to rate’, so one just needs to make a selection instead of clicking twice.

No, it does not expand immediately, instead it replaces itself with the dropdown. But in your most recent reply you are stating "It navigates you somewhere where you can see a dropdown" which is definitely NOT what's happening here. Having the dropdown open immediately, I think, is a good idea, which is why I rated this a 5.

Then you must be seeing a bug, because that's not what is happening here, and I agree, if it did behave like that, it would be really bad user experience. Suggest you click on the Support button and log it as a bug. Please make sure to include screen shots and exact steps to reproduce. Thanks!

Hello! Clicking the text "Decline to rate" doesn't open a dropdown. It navigates you somewhere where you can see a dropdown (which makes the "Decline to rate" text a link, not a dropdown, itself. And I think it's an unnecessary extra step) I think we're on the same page : )

Though I hugely agree with the closing time feature, the rest of this is unclear to me.
1 star is block in my group, so unless it's tucked away in an 'advanced' menu, I think the star rating is the most familiar rating system on the internet.
And I'm also not sure what you meant by Comment option. This is a comment.
Strongly for, for, abstain (or decline to vote and give reason why) against, block are how we use the rating system on VocalEyes obviously from 5-1.

I see where you're coming from. I guess the question is: do we want to nothing but our way, or the way we think voting is best, or do we want to also be realistic, and think in terms of what organisations do today, what they'd use the app for, while also having the entirely open rating option as an alternative, the one we think should be the future...?

The close time would be amazing. Probably the single biggest thing I miss from Loomio.
It's also the most common cock up with Doodle polls. 10 people share their availability and by the time the decision is made, people's diaries have changed.
With voting and acting on ideas, I think similarly, people are likely to participate if they know they don't have unlimited time to do so.

Personally I think at least a day or two, if not forever... If there's not the trust between people to not totally change data/ context that's been voted on, surely that's the real issue. Preventing editing of posted comments isn't going to fix a lack of trust. See Telegram (better + open source version of WhatsApp, which allows editing of messages for up to 3? days) but at least allow some editing period for replies to comments! :)
