Not only will it benefit the horses but will also remove the horses from the danger of the busy roads
We see far too many collisions or near miss accidents on britains roads and unfortunately through haigh a lot of driver do not keep working the max speed limit regardless of a passing distance around a horse.
The passing places along wingates are far apart and passing cars far too impatient to wait to leave suitable distance to go around (always seems in a rush at the weekends for rugby club)
To save time any money …..If a walk way could be created within the park itself (only a WALKING way) many of the dog walkers and walkers with families would be accepting of this im sure as majority of dogs are kept on leads. Families with children especially love to see horses walk by.
Same aspect as at the beach (no galloping) and dog walkers mingle in with the horses
Opening up the surrounding Haigh plantations to provide facilities and paths would help create a safe environment for riders. It would be good if everyone was able to enjoy all parts as well, I love seeing dog walkers riders walkers etc enjoying our countryside together

To have access to routes were busy roads don’t have to be crossed creates a stress free environment for horse and rider. There are lots of routes in Standish but limited parking unless you use Thompson house but that requires a couple of crossings across main roads. To be able to park, tack up and ride knowing there is no road work involved would be priceless.

We all need to be couterous to over multiple users and Haigh Hall hacking would be great. Yes some folk may abuse the route which is inconsiderate and therefore may end up with closures.
We all need any safe route, riding is good for the mind and peacful rides would be better.
The Red Rock line is a bridleway which could connect to Haigh Hall if we were allowed on the canal (I mean canals were made for horses to pull barges) this would eliminate the busy road. Red Rock line falls under Wigan Council and atm is in desperate repair. Looking forward to new routes.
Thank you.
Wigan council and waterways you are missing an income generation opportunity .
On visiting yorkshire in the summer . Organised pony club events for lond distance rides were held in countryside estates and parks and all park users were treated with respect .
Haigh Hall is a beautiful park and us horse riders should be able to also responsibly enjoy it. I've been riding on the outskirts of the park for 4 years and have never had any issues with walkers apart from one moaning Myrtle a while ago. I understand the issues with going on the main path but don't see the issue with using the outskirts/dirt tracks (at a sensible pace obviously).
Thanks for this important information. We need facts like this to start the ball rolling. If you know of any other horse riders who may be interested in joining this project can you please let them know and ask them to register on here? Thanks.

Some excellent step by step advice by Ealing Council on how to set up a Neighbourhood Christmas Tree. It gives advice on permissions, funding and the practical steps needed to get it up and running.i

Great idea, would brighten up the area in the dark cold winter months, providing it dosnt cause any veering restrictions whilst turning out of Toddington lane in a vehicle
