Thank you to all those who have given their approval and offers of support to this project.
The public reaction to this idea has been wonderful to see, and the passion and commitment shines through in all the horse riders' comments.
These will be very useful in gathering evidence to show to Wigan Council that there is an urgent need to address the issues sooner rather than later.
An email has been sent out to everyone who expressed an interest in getting involved, inviting them along to a Zoom meeting on Tuesday 29th November at 7pm.

The agenda is as follows:

To establish the aims of the working group by gathering evidence from horse riders to show if there is an urgent need for a joined up bridleway in Haigh.

Objectives:
Use an OS Map of the area on a shared screen to discuss the following questions: (The bridleways are the large green dashed lines, small ones are footpaths)
What is the current situation?
Has it changed from the past situation? If so, how has it changed?
Do you feel safe riding in Haigh? Are there any dangers? If so, how can these be addressed?
What would you like to see change, and where?
Can you identify a potential route for a joined up bridleway?

Next steps:
To take the findings of this meeting to Wigan Council with a view to setting up a joint working group with a balance of members.

If you would like to get involved, its not too late, just click you'd like to get involved and I will get back to you with details.

Pennard Community Council have listened to the community's need for more beach cleaning and litter picking capacity. They have purchased litter picking equipment for the community, spending some of the £5k allocated to ideas through VocalEyes. Litter pickers, hoops and bags are available to sign out from The Southgate and The Beaufort in Kittle. To have your say on how we spend the remainder of the £5000 please register at www.vocaleyes.org to rate and debate ideas or even add some of your own!

Before the Easter break, sixth form students embarked on a journey guiding year 11 through their formal assessments and assisting them with their A-level options.

The mentoring scheme is the brainchild of year 12 and Senior Students' leader on careers, Ahbab Ali.

Mentor, Zakariya Chowdhury, said "I have gained a great sense of satisfaction in seeking to ease this burden meanwhile enhancing my connection to the school."

"Overall, I think by having someone who can empathise with your struggles and can help you overcome them, it can form a healthy relationship especially during any assessment season predicaments you may find yourself in."

Meanwhile, another mentor, Jami Chowdhury, expressed "The peer mentor scheme is an amazing prospect for year 11 students to receive tips and advice from experienced students. I can say that this scheme benefits these students during the current exam period and especially in a pandemic."

Year 11 students are not the only party to be learning from new experiences, as the mentors are learning lots about their own futures.

Malak Grira says it has allowed her to "get some clarity on what I intend to do in the future and it further motivated it me to work hard."

"Working with my mentor has really allowed us to connect and form a really strong bond over what we both enjoy in terms of academics and future aspirations."
